In August of 1972, a large fire swept through the upper Dry Creek Valley. At Shippey Vineyards an old vine field blend vineyard was set ablaze as the fire raced over the thick brush and through the oak trees. The site of the current Flaming J Vineyard was burnt to the ground as the near eighty-year old vines caught fire in the intense heat.
Thirteen years later, this same piece of property was replanted with grapes and named in honor of the vineyard that existed where it is now planted.
The Flaming J Petite Sirah is a dark, brooding, inky wine with blueberry and huckleberry flavors, very soft tannins for such an immense wine and stellar aging protential. This is a wine you can drink now, or hold in your cellar for many years. Enjoy!
